Search Recordings
The Search Recordings feature located on the ClickTale Dashboard lets you easily track your visitors according to:
- Pages visited - find visitors based on the pages they visited within your site.
- Page count - find visitors based on the number of pages they saw within your site.
- Original referrer - find visitors based on how they came to your site.
- Events - find visitors based on any behavioral or visitor events they encountered, such as a JavaScript error, clicking on a certain button, our coming from a specific email campaign.
How to read your results
Pages
![]()
This indicates that the visitor browsed through 6 webpages. When clicking the plus sign, the recording details expand illustrating a list of all 6 pages.
Country
![]()
The country section not allows you to see which country your visitor came from but which internet browser they were using while perusing through your website. Each country is represented by a flag and a 2 digit country code.
Latest Visit
The time passed since the last recording of this visitor. In other words, when the visitor’s browsing session first began of their most recent visit.
First Visit
This indicates the first time this particular visitor browsed your site. Engagement time=== This is the amount of time that the visitor interacts with your website. Using the yellow plus sign to expand the recording results will allow you to see exactly how long the visitor browsed through each page.
Referrer
This indicates where the visitor came from. It is illustrated by the last URL visited before arriving on your website.
Entry Page
Do not get this confused with the referrer. The entry URL is the URL of the first page of your website that the visitor lands on for example your visitor may visit your product page through a link in a ppc ad.
Events
Events are used to track visitors based on their actions. By adding an extra piece of code to elements of your site (links, URLs, movies, forms, etc.), visitors who interact with tagged elements will have the Event tag attached to their browsing history. You can then search for and watch recordings of Events using our Search tool.
How to save your results
Depending on your plan, you may export your recording's results to a CSV file. There are two types of reports that can be generated:
1. Summary Report: This report provides a high-level Visitor Summary of your search results to include the visitor ID, number of visited pages, type of browser, country, first and last visit etc. In essence, this report summarizes the search recording's table at its default state (without the pageview drill down of each visitor).
2. Detailed Report: This reports provides both a high-level as well as the specific page view description. It is a complete account of your search recordings and provides the entire data set in a single worksheet. Note, both reports are limited to the maximum CSV rows (65,536).

Lost potential customers

Visitors from Google campaigns or search query
The Original Referrer filter finds visitors that came from any source, including search engines, but can also be used to find videos of customers who came from a Google campaign or search query. For example:
- Use this followed by any keyword to find visitors who came from any specific search term. For example, “http://www.google.com/search?q=clicktale” will show us videos of visitors who came to our site after searching Google for the term “clicktale”.
- This will find visitors who came from a Google AdWords campaign.
